ABOUT

The inaugural Hoi An International Food Festival will take place from 14-20th March 2016. For one week Hoi An will be transformed into a truly international  culinary destination. Twelve international chefs will bring their countries food to some of Hoi An's best restaurants. The restaurants themselves will be themed to a specific country with decor, food, music and costume reflecting the participating country.

 

The chefs will be recreating their traditional dishes, showcasing the finest locally sourced Vietnamese ingredients. The festival will give visitors the opportunity to try food from around the world while enjoying a festival atmosphere. Over the coming years we hope to invite  chefs from even more countries. For our first year we have already confirmed notable chefs from 12 countries.

 

The event launches on 13th March with a cocktail evening prior to the the first official day, and closes with an International Street party in Nguyen Thai Hoc and an Awards Ceremony taking place at An Hoi Sculpture Garden.

With 12 International chefs representing 12 countries and 12 themed restaurants, The Hoi An International Food Festival will be the first of its kind food festival in Vietnam, celebrating global food and the finest locally sourced ingredients.

MARCH 8 2016

Prior to the Festival, there will be an invitation only Press/Media Event to be held at Vy's Market Restaurant & Cooking School. Invited guests will include journalists, media, Government representatives, representatives of participating restaurants and sponsors. The aim of this event is to introduce the Festival, explaining the scope, programme, goals and future vision. Ms Vy, Chairperson of Hoi An Culinary Events, will give a welcoming speech. The visiting chefs will be introduced, followed by a speech by Chef Duc Tran (owner of Mango.Mango & Mango Rooms) on behalf of the participating restaurants. A Q&A session will follow, before refreshments and photo opportunities.

Taste the World Taste The World!

DAY

1

MARCH 12 2016

On the first day, prior to the public event, the chefs and participating restaurants will be welcomed to the stage at An Hoi Sculpture Garden, where they will experience a 'Taste the World Workshop' cooking demonstration by Ms Vy. Intended as a culinary and cultural exchange, Ms Vy will introduce Vietnamese culture and food - its history, ethos and medicinal benefits. Thomas Gugler - the Chief of Chefs will then introduce the team of invited chefs to the Media. The chefs will then create their signature dishes and have the opportunity to discuss the dishes with members of the media,

DAY

2

MARCH 13 2016

17:00 to 22:00:

On the second day, the Chamber of Commerce will host a cocktail evening for the visiting chefs, owners of participating restaurants, senior executives of the larger resorts in the region, and members of the press/media*.

The chefs will prepare their signature dishes for sampling.

Limited tickets will be made available to the general public for this 'Taste the World' event ($100 usd / pax). Contact us for details.

 

*Members of the media will be provided with 2 tickets each, to be collected at the press release on 8th March.

One week of events open to the public. Every evening, the participating restaurants will be decorated and themed to the country of the visiting chef. The chefs will prepare traditional dishes from their respective countries.

3

MARCH 14 2016

17:00 to 22:00:

The event opens to the public with an Opening Ceremony at An Hoi Sculpture Garden where guest chefs will be introduced to the culture of Hoi An. Participating restaurants will each occupy one stall and the respective guest chefs will create one hot and one cold dish. Ticket coupons (50.000vnd) will be available to purchase dishes at any of the stalls - 1 coupon can be exchanged for 2 dishes (one hot, 1 cold).

In addition to the daily event, the final day will present the Closing Gala, with an awards ceremony for chefs and participating restaurants presented by the Hoi An People's Committee, and an International Street Party with food and gift stalls in the area adjacent to Hoi An's iconic Japanese Bridge.

Representing Greece, George will be recreating some of Greece's most loved dishes at Hai Café.

ALAN PAYEN

Alan will bring the exotic flavours of Mauritius to Rice Drum Restaurant.

EMRAH KÖKSAL SEZGİN

From Turkey,  Emrah will recreate famous Turkish dishes at InFlame Club.

GERT KLÖTZKE

Representing Sweden, Gert will showcase some of Sweden's most well-known dishes at Seafood Garden.

Expect the Best of British at Mango Rooms from Chef Gary.

From Slovenia, Mango Mango is delighted to host the renowned Iztok Legat.

    TRINH DIEM VY

    Chairperson

    Trinh Diem Vy is one of Vietnam’s most recognised restaurateurs and chefs. Born and raised in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Hoi An, Ms Vy is a third generation cook whose family recipes have garnered recognition throughout the country. Truly impassioned by food, Ms Vy has also played an important role in keeping traditional recipes alive. Her Hoi An restaurants, Mermaid, Cargo Club, Morning Glory and The Market Restaurant and Cooking School, are famous both in Vietnam and abroad.

     

    in 2011 she published her first cookbook - Taste Vietnam - which has sold over 15,000 copies. In 2015, she opened her first overseas restaurant - House of Hoi An, in Melbourne, Australia.    www.msvy-tastevietnam.com

    Founder & CEO

    Sri Lankan born Keerthi Hapugasdeniya (better known as happyK) graduated and started his career in Colombo before moving to Switzerland and then Australia. A word class, award winning Chef, happyK is the managing director of happyK solutions and is one of the leading service providers to the Airline and hospitality industry. He is also a TV personality with a cooking show in Australia  and conducts many culinary events in the region.

     

    happyK has represented Australia at the Culinary World Cup and the Culinary Olympics (winning prestigious awards including individual gold medals).     Chief of Chefs

    As well as being a member of numerous professinal culinary bodies globally, Thomas has acheived world reknown, winning over 178 international awards, medals and token appreciations, appearing in numerous TV shows, writing many cook books, and hosting many culinary master classes around the world. He has Lived in 13 Countries and speaks 9 languages fluently.

     

    His aim is to further the skills of young talented chefs globally and to boost the industry towards professionalism in terms of quality aspects. Thomas loves to cook, is passionate about food & beverage, and traveling to experience other cultures and cuisines.
